Procedure
- Fill the Test Tube (0778) with the water sample up to the 15 ml level.
- Add one drop of Phenolphthalein Reagent (2246 - E) to the sample. If the solution remains colorless, proceed directly to step 3. If the sample turns red, add Sulphuric Acid (6090 - E) one drop at a time until the red color disappears. Then proceed to step 3.
- Add three drops of Chloride Reagent No.1 (4504 - E) to the sample in the Test Tube. Cap the Test Tube and shake well to mix. This should result in a yellow color.
- Fill the Titrator with Chloride Reagent No. 2 (4505 - H) up to the 'Zero' mark in the Test Tube Cap. Gradually add this reagent to the sample, drop by drop, while gently shaking. Continue until the yellow color permanently changes to pink/brown.
- The result is obtained in parts per million (ppm) of Chloride by multiplying the Titrator reading by ten.
